Patterns

Ripples on the pond, motions of the stars, every self-organized system and every atomic bond all beautiful patterns in the intricate dance of the universe   Out of all these patterns, some show up as conscious, sentient beings, and those are especially beautiful in our eyes   What an incredible privilege it is to make new sentient beings and to pass on some of our patterns that we have come to cherish   We made a pattern, gave him a name, and poured into him all we could   Oh, what a fine little man he was!   What we didn’t realize was how much we got back That little fellow carving beautiful patterns in our minds and hearts   One fateful spring day a glitch in the pattern appeared One that unraveled the strange loops that held the pattern together   The pattern was lost, it dissipated as entropy took over The universe mourned the loss of such a beautiful pattern   Like buddhist monks, we watched on, with stoic, logical calm, and putting to best use the organs and all   It was a different matter what patterns swirled inside where agony, desperation and sadness were words embodied   The patterns made by the pattern remain intact, embedded deep within and that’s where you will stay, dear son, and thrive on
